Redruth 2nd XV are going West for a change this week with a visit to Pirates Amateurs. After a tough start to the season the team have now recorded four wins on the trot, one at home to Bideford and three on the road at Tavistock, Bude and Penryn. They were due to play St Ives in a cup match last week but the Hakes could not raise a side so the Reds progress on a walk over.
Supporters will be delighted to know that this will be our last game away until the New Year and, with the 1st XV away at Devonport, its an opportunity to pop down the A30 to Penzance and give the lads some support.
Our hosts currently sit in 3rd place in the table with five wins to their credit, their two losses were away to Paignton and a home defeat by Wivelscombe. They have run up some significant scores including a 50-3 defeat of Plymstock Oaks and a 49-34 win over Kingsbridge.
Pirates Amateurs were spun out of the old Penzance & Newlyn club after the formation of the professional side that is now dubbed Cornish Pirates. In many ways the Amateurs are a direct successor of the original P & N club that was set up following the merger of the former Penzance & Newlyn clubs in 1945.
