Reds enjoy their trip to the seaside.

The Reds 2’s made it 3 wins on the trot with a deserved victory in North Cornwall. The away side were never behind in the game and fully deserved their win against a determined Bude outfit.

Redruth kicked off on a sunny and breezy day and the hosts obligingly dropped the kick-off to gift the Reds field position in the 22. The visitors forced a couple of 5 metre line outs and from one of these they were all over the home line, playing an advantage they spun the ball left and the try was only stopped by a high tackle. The referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty try to put the Reds 7 points up on 6 mins. Straight from the restart the Reds worked their way back up the field and Adam Hall added a penalty to put the Reds 10 points to the good. Following some midfield action the Reds ran a Bude clearance back from the edge of their own 22 and took play deep into home territory. A penalty was popped into the corner, after the maul was stopped Ben Smith snuck around the edge of the ruck for a try well converted by Hall from wide out.
Bude hit back quickly, a penalty was put into the corner and following an offside in the midfield a quick tap and go saw Saxton go over for a try converted by Thomas. 17-7 to the Reds on 22 mins. The Reds were next to add to their tally, a penalty took play into the 22 and then a peel move off the back of the line out saw the Reds on the line but they were held up for a goal line drop out which the Reds ran back into Bude territory. After a Bude fumble the Reds moved the ball, Luca Brano made good ground and then Smith shrugged off a few tackles to score his second try, Hall added the extras. The remainder of the half was even but just on half-time Bude made a great break in midfield and Rowland went over in the corner for an unconverted try.
Half-Time: Bude 12 – Redruth 24

Bude started the second period well; the kick-off went into touch on the 22. The Reds got turned over at the first ruck, Bude cut back against the grain and good passing saw Rowland go over for his second try, Thomas striking a great touchline conversion. Bude were now back to within 5 points on 43 mins and threatening a comeback win. It was not to be, from a penalty just outside of the 22, Redruth ran the ball and got to within a few metres of the line, a number of pick-an-goes were repulsed before prop Ollie Simmons powered over from inches out for an unconverted try. The Reds were now beginning to dominate and spent some time in their opponents half and Hall added a penalty on 60 mins to increase the lead. The dominant Redruth scrum won a penalty on halfway and the ball found touch on the 22. From the ruck after the lineout Smith saw a gap and burst into the clear to go over for his hat trick, Hall added the extras to put the Reds 20 points up on 64 mins. The Reds kept the pressure on the home side and only a knock-on on the line prevented another score. A few mins later from a 5 metre scrum No.8 Finlay Wolstencroft shrugged off a couple of tackles for the last try of the match well converted by Hall. The Reds remained on top for the remainder of the match but determined defence from the home side kept them at bay.
The young Reds now seem to have found their feet at level 7 and are climbing up the league table. Next Saturday they are away again, this time though just the short trip to Penryn waits.
