Following last weeks 17-6 defeat at Kingsbridge, Redruth 2nd XV has yet another trip to South Devon to take on Paignton. Due to the problems facing team manager Rob Hume in sorting out fixtures, the 2nds won’t get their first home game until October 5th.
Redruth led last weeks game at half time 6-5 thanks to to early penalties by Ashley Hosking with Kingsbridge adding an unconverted try in the final ten minutes of the first half. After the break Kingsbridge ran in two more tries, one of which was converted, to take the match.
Paignton RFC was first formed in 1873 but went through a number of different incarnations before being reformed, this time for good, in 1891. They were promoted out of Cornwall/Devon (Tier 8) up to Western Counties West in 2020. In their first two seasons at this level they finished in the lower half of the table but last season they narrowly missed promotion to Regional Two South West after finishing second behind champions Tiverton on points difference.
They have played at their current ground, Queen’s Park, since 1902.
