No one can have any doubt that games between Redruth and Camborne are a cut above any other fixtures we play. This Saturday we travel into bandit country to take on Town in the second of our league fixtures this season.
Camborne have steam rollered over most of their opponents this autumn and must have thought they were going to do the same thing to Redruth back in the league game in September when they turned round 43-7 up. A young Redruth side had other ideas and, not only did they prevent Camborne from scoring in the second half, they pushed them all the way to the very end with a narrow eight point loss at the close, Camborne’s frustration showing in the four yellow cards they collected, a tally they have added to over the first half of the season.
Our two sides have been playing each other since Boxing Day 1877 when Redruth won the encounter at Rosewarne although there have been plenty of seasons when we never met at all, following a row about something or other. Games were rarely tame affairs, the most violent encounter being in 1912 which saw a Camborne player drop his shorts and moon the crowd and which ended in a near riot.
