On Saturday Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground Exeter University RFC who make their first ever league visit to the Recreation Ground in the game rearranged from before Christmas which fell victim to global warming disguised as a frozen pitch.
The students could be said to be a bit of an enigma in that you never know what you are going to get, the proverbial 'box of chocolates' would be Forest Gumps thoughts. When at full strength they are one of the best teams in the league, but when BUCS league commitments take priority then they are a much less daunting proposition. In the game earlier in the season Redruth faced their best XV. That game ended in a 42 - 29 win for the home side with Redruth being guilty of not turning pressure into points. The students for their part zipped the ball around the field in a great display of continuity rugby in perfect conditions, this may prove a more difficult style to repeat at the Recreation Ground in February! Last week Exeter lost at home to Old Redcliffians by 20-30 and fielded a squad of 20 that contained only 2 players who faced the Reds earlier in the year.
Exeter now sit in 6th place with 72 points having won 11 of their 17 matches and have a +72 points difference.
Their main kicker is Sam Walker (fly-half) who has 104 points and their top try scorer is Joshua Thorne (No.8) who is on 6.
The Reds come into this match after a thrilling 21-3 home win over Luctonians. A very strange encounter when on a dry and calm day the half-time score was the same as the full time score! The Reds scored 21 points playing up the slope but could not add to their tally when playing towards Hellfire Corner. It's been many a year since a game at the Recreation Ground went scoreless for an entire 40 mins.
Stats
This win puts the Reds in 4th place on 60 points having won 12 of their 16 games and with a +224 points difference.
Fraser Honey continues to rack up the points and is now on 161 which makes him the highest scorer at level 4.
The top try scorer is Richard Brown with 12 which makes him the 2nd highest scorer in National 2 West.
Look out for team news on Friday.
