I know that all associated with Redruth RFC would wish to pass on their condolences to Mike’s wife Isabel, his daughters Sarah, Isabel(Gail) and Mary, son Michael and the wider family.

Mike was President of Redruth RFC from 2014 to 2017 and Mike was both honoured and delighted to have held the position, especially as he was following in the footsteps of his father Gordon Beckerleg who was President from 1965 to 1976. Indeed the Beckerlegs are unique in being the only father and son Presidents of the club. Mike fulfilled this role with great dedication, representing the club all over the South of England. I know that many officials of our opponents, who Mike has hosted over the years, will also be very sad to hear the news.

Mike’s association with Redruth began with family holidays taken in Cornwall which always seemed, by some strange coincidence, to coincide with Redruth home matches. Mike was schooled in Taunton and talked fondly of coming up against a young Richard Sharp in one school match against Blundell’s School. Mike always gave to the game as much as the game gave to him. From his many years as a referee, to his longstanding volunteering at Redruth RFC where he has held many positions, including that of Fixture Secretary in the days when the club had 4 senior sides and a colts team.

Mike will be sadly missed at Redruth RFC.
